Outstanding Advocacy:
  • KAFP is the voice of family medicine in Topeka, advocating effectively for family physicians and their patients, with legislative priorities adopted by the Board of Directors.
  • The Governmental Advocacy Commit­tee and governmental relations consul­tant stay ahead of issues and work with family physicians across the state to address them.
High Quality Continuing Medical Education (CME):

  • KAFP provides excellent CME through the Annual Meeting & Scien­tific Session each June. Evidence-Based CME is offered to maximize the quality and credits.
  • Additional CME is offered throughout the year, including SAM Group Learning Sessions, and Patient Centered Medical Home topics. CME topics recently addressed include:

  • Smoking Cessation
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Immunizations
  • Hypertension
  • Pediatric Asthma
  • Obstetrics
  • Dermatology

     Leadership in Public Health:

    • Tobacco: KAFP is vitally involved in tobacco related coalitions across the state, in both local and statewide efforts.  KAFP is the lead organization in the Family Medicine Tobacco Office Champions program in which 10 clinics are going through systems change to help you help your patients quit smoking.
    • Immunization:  KAFP works with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and other organizations to improve the rate of timely immunizations for Kansans.
    • Work Force: KAFP works with lawmakers, Kansas University School of Medicine, and community leaders to increase the number of students who select family medicine as their specialty of choice.
    • Kansas Primary Care Physician Coalition: KAFP and leaders in primary care are working to promote the Patient Centered Medical Home model of care and payment for value not volume.

    •  Awards Kansas Family Physician of the Year, Exemplary Teaching, and Humanitarian award recognize outstanding family doctors in Kansas. Hostetter Award recognizes outstanding students.
