If the Supreme Court rules that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional, Congress will work on retaining certain provisions in the law that enjoy bipartisan support. That was one of the main messages delivered by Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., in the keynote address at this year's Family Medicine Congressional Conference May 14-15 in Washington. McMorris Rodgers told the nearly 200 family physicians at the conference that Congress is trying to anticipate how the Supreme Court might rule on the Affordable Care Act. "Should the Supreme Court rule that any part of the health care (law) is unconstitutional, we (Congress) are prepared to move forward immediately to try and prevent some of the chaos in the marketplace," said McMorris Rodgers.

Faces in Family Medicine

Faces in Family Medicine...in its 3rd year

KAFP’s Faces in Family Medicine program (FIFM) is a mentorship program for medical students.

There are many faces of family medicine – rural, urban, suburban, academic, hospitalist, ER – to share with medical students. Thank you to the family physicians who represented different types of practice so that the medical students could see the many faces in family medicine!

Over 40 interested medical students gathered for dinner and an informal talk with 10 family physician leaders on Oct. 13, 2011 to explore the many facets and faces of the specialty.  In its third year, Faces in Family Medicine (FIFM) is designed to showcase family medicine’s attractions and versatility.  The dinner meeting will be followed with an opportunity for students to have a family physician mentor during the rest of the school year.  Thank you to Drs. Jen Brull, Deb Clements, Shelly Gruenbacher, Mike Engelken, Lynn Fisher, Josh Freeman, Chad Johanning, Mike Kennedy, Bob Moser, and Belinda Vail.  They participated and represented the specialty well!  Many thanks to Martha Schneider, Chris Wolff & Rachel Svaty, FMIG leaders, for their able assistance as well.  The mentors and mentees have been paired and the mentor phase is in the beginning stages. Thanks to all who volunteered to mentor!
